Cooperative board games

What are cooperative board games?

In these type of board games you don’t play against but with your friends! You win or lose as a team. You have to work together to achieve a goal. These types of games are perfect to play with people who don’t play board games that much, because you can help them when its there turn.

Cooperative board games were first made in the 20th century and were used for educational purposes. In 1980 the first popular cooperative board game came out: Akram Horror. Still that game is seen as one of the best board games ever made. You can recognize cooperative board games also there theme. It is usually very detailed and important for the game.

A lot of cooperative board games can also be played in an competitive mode or can be played solo.

Famous cooperative board games

Akram Horror is one of the most popular games in this genre. Other cooperative board games that has been sold thousands times are: Flash Point, games from the Tiny Epic series and Pandemic.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue

Game: Flash Point: Fire Rescue
Publisher: Indie Boards & Cards
Year: 2009
Players: 1 – 6
Time: 45 min

This game isn’t about building a city or civilization, like so many games. Flash Point has a really unique theme: fire. In Flash Point you are a firefighter who needs to rescue victims out of the building. Smoke, fire and even explosions make your job hard. When you can’t save the victims and the building collapse, you failed.

🔥Review: the first thing that I noticed when I opened the box is that the game pieces look like…..game pieces. Such a shame! The theme would be so much stronger when the pieces looked like fire fighters. But when I started to play, I forgave them that mistake. It is a really fun game where luck is also a factor. In the box are 2 versions: easy and hard. One I’d played easy I played the hard game because easy was good to learn the game, but a bit too easy for me.

Qwixx

Name: Qwixx
Publisher: white goblin games
Players: 2 to 5
Time: 20 min

In the Roll and Write game Qwixx you have to roll the dice and mark the numbers of your card. But you are only aloud to mark the numbers from left to right, so you can’t go back.

🔥Review: I only have Qwixx for two month but I think I played it 20 times. It is a quick, fun and simple game that you can explain in 5 minutes. The best part is that you always have to think about what you’re doing. One wrong picked dice, and you may be the loser. What I don’t like about qwixx is that, especially at the end of the game, luck becomes a huge factor and even when you played better, you still may lose.

Tiny Epic Zombies

Game: Tiny Epic Zombies
Publisher: Gamelyn Games
Year: 2018
Players: 1-5
Time: 30-45 min

In Tiny Epic Zombies you need to kill zombies with your weapons, carried by the ITEMeeples. Meanwhile you have to solve three tasks to win, but you also have to pay attention to the growing number off Zombies in the mall!

🔥I absolutely love this game. I have played it three times since yesterday and the game still doesn’t bore me. It is hard to win and because the tasks are so different, the game surprises you every time. De artwork, at least I found, is amazing and the box looks really cool. Only negative is that the little wooden zombies aren’t printed wel because the plastic layer is falling off. Also, the instructions book is a bit difficult to read. I managed to play the game by watching a video in YouTube.

Score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

NMBR 9

Game: NMBR 9
Publisher: 999Games
Artist: Peter Wichmann
Year: 2017
Players: 1-2
Time: 20 min

NMRB9 is puzzle game that also can be played by one player. It is like Tetris. Who builds the most floors en wins the most points?
🔥review: it’s an nice game, but it hasn’t a lot of depth. No theme, characters or strategy is needed to win this game. What you do get is a lot of puzzle fun and a game the whole family can participate in.
Score:⭐️⭐️

Dobble

Game: Dobble
Publisher: Asmodee
Year: 2009
Players: 2-8
Time: 20 min

1Dobble is a little game in a can, so it is perfect to take with you while traveling. You can play it with 2 players or more. Dobble only takes about ten minutes. You need focus and a good reflex to win this game. All the cars have figures on them, but only one is the same as on an other card. When you see the symbol first, you’ve won that round.

🔥Review: Dobble is a nice quick game that can be played by adults but also by children. The only negative thing is that you don’t really need tactics to win this game.

Dixit

— Oscar Wilde.

Dixit is one of my favorite games. A game from Libellud. Try to read the mind of your opponents and guess which card they put on the table. 🔥review: the cards are beautiful and they don’t get damaged easily. The rabbits, that are the game pieces, make this game extra fun. The only negative is that when you play with the same people over and over again, it can get a bit boring because you know what they think. Score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
